Hi guys,
Another excellent topic especially for those of us who have wandered into these scripture verses in the past while reading the gospels and have taken them literally without an understanding as far as the whole context of the gospel they are taken from. Or, the root of the words expressed in their original ancient language form. Ryan Dellacrosse expressed this well as one example in Luke 14:26 about Jesus saying ‘hate your parents’. In Hebrew the word hate is actually translated into ‘love less’. Jesus is saying we should love Him more. (This was a concept that burnt my butt when I was a kid. I didn’t want to love God more than I loved my own terrific parents. It took me years before I understood that I just naturally loved God more or there wouldn’t be an Andrea or set of parents in the first place. Loving my parents and siblings were practice.)
Perseverance in scripture reading and their meaning often needs the original ancient language explained whether Aramaic or Hebrew or Greek. Otherwise something is lost in the translation as the saying goes. I need to get back to reading the Bible. Every time I read it I extrapolate verses from it as standalone Bible quotes that make you think about the unbelievable amount of wisdom found in both Testaments.
Jesus deliberately separated the start of his church from the politics of Rome and Caesar. Jesus was the sword of division and would have considered today’s relativism a total copout. Fr. Rich paraphrased Bishop Fulton J. Sheen who said:
“If I were not a Catholic, and were looking for the true Church in the world today, I would look for the one Church which did not get along well with the world; in other words, I would look for the Church which the world hated. My reason for doing this would be, that if Christ is in any one of the churches of the world today, He must still be hated as He was when He was on earth in the flesh”.
‘Virtue signaling’, according to its definition, is ‘the public expression of opinions or sentiments intended to demonstrate one’s good character or social conscience or the moral correctness of one’s position on a particular issue’. We think we are good people but are we actually good people in practice or just in thought. (E.g., thoughts won’t feed the starving.)
I consider each Catholic Talk Show podcast a success when moral lessons are learned and information on our faith gets imparted in an entertaining and informative way as is claimed by the hosts. (I believe I started following each podcast back in August 2019. At that time I found all the 2018 episodes too. I don’t think I have missed any, and they all improved with age!)
“We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.” 1John 4:19-20
Thank you guys and God bless!
Andrea
The true church can be found as the one described in the holy scriptures…the church that Christ built. He does that cruel death, and His church was established based on his death, burial and resurrection, as shown in the gospels snd the book of Acts.
The Bible tells of this church, how it began after Christ’s death, NOT having a beginning based or named after some earthly person.
The early church was just that… the church, Christ’s church.
Let’s all strive and commit to diligently search the God breathed scriptures for the one, true, biblical church.
Even though you may refer to yourself as catholic, you can still learn about the one true church in the scriptures…you stated that this church can be found in the scriptures …. And you are right there!
There is no mention is ever made of a Catholic church, Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, or any other such name.
It’s that simple snd so many people are misled into believing otherwise. I pray the eyes of those people may be opened to the truth!
Totally enjoyed this podcast and your explanation of the 5 things Jesus said when Jesus told the woman to go her sins are forgiven and to sin no more My thought was being we are all human and sometimes are Spirit is weak we will sin again and again therefore we have confession but nine times out of 10 we swill sin again In confession the priest will say go and sin no more that is the hardest thing to absorb because we are weak How many times will God forgive our trespasses!?? The Spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.
Jesus condemned 3 entire cities to Hell in Matthew 11:20-24
“But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and kill them in front of me. Luke 19:27
“He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them.” John 12:40
If anyone comes to you but does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your home or even greet him. Whoever greets such a person shares in his evil deeds. 2 John 1:10-11
“If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.” Matthew 18:6
BTW the original word in “hate your parents” actually means “hate’. I have done that and thank God for it. Under the right circumstances it is a wonderful Catholic grace. Email me and I can explain it to you in detail.
