Marijuana is legal in some states but is still illegal with the Feds. What then?
I’m gonna leave my question before listening, cause….I’m bad. Personally I feel I can articulate reasons why it doesn’t make sense spiritually. But what confuses me, as far as articulating the Catholic position against, is the rationale that I often see offered when it comes up with theology Q&A blogs.
Usually, it follows that they quote one specific Catechism passage on abstaining from drugs, etc…ok. but alcohol is a drug as well, is it not?
So how can the Catechism reference shoot down the permissibility of weed, while the wording should make alcohol ALSO impermissible? Maybe it’s just not as clearly worded as it could be, as one should interpret it more to be about non alcoholic mind altering substances.
That said, as someone above said, the notion of the difficulty of moderate use and other reasons are enough to keep me wanting to play it safe. I also think that it alters the mind in a way that is less harmonious with one’s natural spiritual disposition than what (moderate) alcohol use does.
Hi guys,
Good episode and idea for an episode.
I agree with you Ryan Scheel that intentionality is the key to temperance or intemperance.
I remember when I was about twenty being at a party and loving the brownies that were on the buffet table and feeling really good about loving those brownies. LOL Someone finally told me they were laced with marijuana!
You handled a timely topic and tough subject well. Thanks!!
Drunkenness is fairly subjective, but since the body dissipates alcohol while it is being drank a person could have 10 drinks over the course of 10 hours and never be remotely drunk where one puff of a joint can bring an instant high. Sure abusing alcohol can be worse than abusing weed but drinking moderately is possible where I don’t see how smoking weed moderately for recreational purposes is possible…
