The adjunct professor is back! RD must have invited him. Structured questions in the inquisitorial procedure would surely be slanted to set up the accused to hang himself if politics were involved. All systems get abused and why we remember this period in time in the church so negatively and with fear has to be because the system was used for vengeance under the cover of rooting out heretics. Never knew heresy was considered a capital secular crime as a common judgement made between church and government.
The history of Spain and the conversos bringing about the Spanish Inquisition was history learned by me today. The bad reputation about the Spanish Inquisition brought about by Torquemada who used it as a means to gain power, consolidate power, and keep power. I agree it was used as a political tool RS. That brings about abuse of power which can be seen happening within our government today. Venality is one of the biggest problems we have right now within a ruling group. The desire to usurp more power than given within a democracy has our Constitution under siege.
I pick my audience or measure my words when I discuss religion sometimes because discourse won’t happen I will just come under attack for believing fairy tales and many of these same people want the Church to mind its business about sexuality especially since it took so long to clean up its own act. I tell these people what I believe and leave it at that. I always hope that is enough because it is genuine.
I just had a small inspirational book published, Thoughts on God, and within my own network it has people thinking about God which I wanted. It is first and foremost a thank you note to God for helping me out all the time, and especially when no-one else could. I get my author’s royalty account this month plus the press release will go out on it but printing started October first. I have a second book in the same venue in the wings depending upon the response on this miniscule work. I also have a completely different book of short stories that I am working on.
Trust me I don’t see Trump as a representation of Christ on earth.
I had no idea that the office of the inquisition still exists under a different name. Are all Popes automatically the Grand Inquisitor? Torturing people is the impression left on my mind historically about the inquisition. Its use was allowed according to our favorite historian in order to elicit confessions. Torture was optional and the inquisitors did not perform the torture it was a secular torture under a duke, a count or king and his Grand Executioner. Good to know it had its parameters. JEEZ! Wasn’t to be punishment but the means to an end and it wasn’t to attack non-Catholics. Only Christians can practice heresy and we weren’t judging other faiths or attacking them. It only makes sense what Steve was saying.
This historically informative podcast aside I find it hard personally to accept the inquisition, especially because torture was involved. RS you are funny with your moderating as far as maintaining civil order. Good luck with that! LOL
Interesting inquisition question for Fr. Rich. A parallel to Trump who always lies so when can you believe him? I say check the facts about the heresy claim to get at the truth and interview any witnesses involved. ‘Inquisitorial impeachment’. You can’t rely on the testimony of a pathological liar.

The confession is, that he is a liar. The priest should begin in his authority in the truth that G-d will not answer by sin, and having confidence in G-d’s presence and knowing of all things, desires Mercy and has provided the Truth in His Presence. From there the Priest can ascertain a proper penance for absolution of any other transgressions of the soul he was given care of. Holy confession used to have the forgiveness of the sins “confessed” and all other sins “not confessed”, in the sacrament not that long ago. G-d Bless…:) I’m great-full you made me think about it.
