  1. Andrea says:

    Hi guys,
I always thought it was grape juice that was drunk at Mass. The wine at Mass is mostly non-sulfite. Hard to find commercially. Italy serves fresh wines at the table, as does most of Europe. Sacramental wine is 10-36 proof. You can fortify the wine by adding port or sherry. It has to be strong to last. ‘Must’ wine is drunk by priests who have a problem with the alcohol content of strong wines. Must wine is barely fermented. A very small amount of sulfates is used to preserve sacramental wine.

Ryan Scheel mentions that the wine industry owes a lot to the Catholic Church for the sale of wine during Prohibition as the Church had special permission to purchase wine for religious purposes a.k.a. the Mass.

If we are buying birthday year wines to celebrate I can’t afford my age of the grape! LOL! Funny story about the $900 bottle of wine Ryan Scheel! I am so sorry they tease you so much about Mike Schmitz Fr. Rich, but it is funny! The last episode, which was great by the way, the interview with Venerable Fulton J. Sheen, I heard you are a 2 as far as priest ratings, Mike Schmitz a 7 and Fulton J. Sheen a full 10 or better! I have to agree with the rating system, Fr. Rich but maybe if you ever show up at a live chat and join your patrons or patreons I might get you up there to at least a 4.

I think it was a good idea to have a sacramental wine contest. I love the idea of St. Michael’s wine as I pray to him twice a day. Pink Delaware was the closest to the taste of sacramental wine but I would prefer the white personally that reminded the guys of Chardonnay. All the wines were sweet in texture. Dellacrosse kept complaining and I too am not a huge fan of sweet wines.

How lovely that there are people in Fr. Rich’s parish who makes his wine. It was picked as the guys top favorite then Pink Delaware. I would love a bottle of the sauterne! Thanks for offering!

    This was a fun episode!

Hey guys. I became a patron a couple of weeks ago. How long does it usually take to get the swag? I take an XL for the sweatshirt if available, otherwise a Large. Would love a bottle of wine too. They all sound good. That was a fun episode. And NO Ryan, don’t you dare punch Father Rich.

  6. I had to pour myself a glass of wine 🍷 to enjoy with all my brother’s in Christ. Mmmm they all sound delicious! I always thought the water poured into the wine was holy water. Now I know and it makes sense. Y’all are nuts and enjoy listening each time. I learn so much in each episode ❤
    P.S.
    I would like a bottle!!! 😁

The best show ever loved it and love wine. I agree with you Ryan I like dark dry wine or a chardonnay. No sweet wine for me. Thanks I also learned a lot from this episode and was jealous of not drinking wine with you.
